Design Team Lead// 2016 - 2018

One of the largest peer-to-peer cryptocurrency marketplaces in the world. The platform allows users to buy, sell, and trade cryptocurrencies using a variety of payment methods.

Team Members' Roles

  • Product Designer (Web)
  • Brand Designer
  • Graphic Designer
  • Team Lead / Product Designer (Mobile)

Introduction

The uniqueness of this project shines with its complexity on different levels. During the rapid growth phase of the platform, its visual identity, including websites and other digital products, was not yet established. The absence of a design team made the project even more challenging.

As a Team Lead, I was responsible for the design processes within the team, building and supporting the design team (including hands-on design work), translating business requirements into design tasks, establishing agile design processes, and initiating new digital products to be integrated into the platform.

The Project

Strategy

Given the state of the project, priorities were set to allow parallel or short-term delivery. Critical design tasks were identified and prioritized. The strategy included design development for the years ahead with control checkpoints.

Team Building

The team was built from scratch.

  • Product Designer (Web): The first team member focused on web design, receiving maximum support to ensure optimal design work.
  • Brand Designer: Responsible for establishing brand guidelines, visual identity, and maintaining consistency across web design. The designer worked on identifying and prioritizing assets that required redesign or redevelopment.
  • Graphic Designer: Focused on creating marketing materials, banners, and other graphic design tasks.

Design Processes

Working in an agile environment with minimal bureaucracy, the team focused on design work. Each member's tasks were mapped to their skills, allowing for efficient management and time-saving.

Design Artifacts and Deliverables

Design artifacts were organized into a system using Sketch and later cloud services. These artifacts were shared with the team, stakeholders, and synchronized with the marketing team.

Case Study: Team Leadership and Process Implementation

Challenge

Leading a design team for a rapidly growing cryptocurrency marketplace without an established visual identity or design team.

Solution

  • Establishing a Design Team: Built a team of specialized designers to handle various aspects of design (web, brand, graphic).
  • Agile Design Processes: Implemented agile design processes to ensure efficient and timely delivery of design tasks.
  • Design System: Created a centralized design system for consistent and synchronized design artifacts.

Outcome

Successfully established a cohesive visual identity for the platform and built a strong, agile design team capable of handling the platform's evolving needs.
